Rebecca about discovering multifocal lenses

Rebecca – 46

Former model Rebecca works as a freelance project manager. She loves fashion and is a keen amateur photographer.

At what age did you start wearing contact lenses?

‘I used to wear glasses when I was a teenager, but I started to do more and more modelling work and fashion shows, for which I had to remove my glasses. But without them I really couldn't see a lot, especially not distances and depths. One day during a fashion show I didn’t notice I was at the end of the catwalk and ended up on the lap of the fashion designer! That’s when I knew it was time to get contact lenses.’

Were you immediately pleased with them?

‘Absolutely, and looking back now I don’t understand why it took me so long to get them. They were not only useful in my job, but also when going out and working out in the gym. Also, I could finally get myself a few pairs of nice, cool sunglasses without needing prescription lenses.’

‘I have to say they were an instant success, I just love them’

When did you start to feel a difference?

‘About three years ago I noticed that reading was getting more and more difficult. I was in denial for a while, because I didn't want to admit I was getting older and at first I just went out and bought the biggest mobile phone I could get. I never got reading glasses, and just struggled to read until I finally realised that I needed a solution.´

How did you find out about multifocal contact lenses?

‘I didn't even know they existed but came across them when I was surfing the net ordering a new set of my normal contact lenses online. I was immediately intrigued, and made an appointment to speak to my optician about them. I have to say they were an instant success, I just love them. I have no idea how they work, but as long as they work, I have to say, i just love them.’

Did it take long to get used to them?

‘I had heard from people who wear varifocal glasses that it can be a bit of a struggle to get used to them, but I didn’t find that at all. The pay-off is immediate. It was a very similar experience to getting my first pair of glasses when I was a young girl and I noticed for the first time the leaves on the trees. It was like a new world opening up to me.’

So you are pleased with them?

‘It may sound a bit dramatic, but there are few products that I am more pleased with. I would highly recommend them to anyone struggling with both contact lenses and reading glasses. I also love not having to keep my phone at arm's length to be able to see what's on the screen, something I notice a lot of people of my age doing. I also love being able to go on holiday, lounging at the pool and being able to read a book wearing my normal sunglasses.´
